Seattle

Seattle is easily one of the most beautiful cities on the west coast. This city offers a little bit of everything…gorgeous views of the bay, beautiful mountains to the east, and plenty of chances to see the cityscape from various pinnacles of the city. Read through some of my favorite things to do in this city on the bay, and have a blast exploring!

Things To Do

Visit the Fremont Troll

This definitely makes it onto the list of totally bizarre attractions. The troll is a one-of-a-kind landmark in Seattle. Built in 1990 under the Aurora bridge, the Fremont troll has become an iconic tourist attraction.

Seattle’s Great Wheel

I put the Great Wheel first because I think a lot of people see the gigantic ferris wheel and think “Nah, overrated”. Well folks, this attraction is truly spectacular. I don’t think I realized how massive this thing actually was until I was directly underneath it and then at the top of it. The best part, of course, is the view! You might throw up on yourself if you are prone to motion sickness, but it’s worth it.

Checkout a Park

Seattle offers many public parks, Kerry Park being one of the most reknown because it offers fantastic views of the city.  However, there are many other great parks to visit for a beautiful view like Volunteer Park and Golden Gardens Park. Volunteer park has a nice playground for the kiddos and a great place to watch the sunset. Golden Gardens Park has a big play area for dogs if you like to travel with your pup, and has a sandy beach to walk on.

Catch a Game at Safeco Field

Why not catch a baseball game while you’re in Seattle? Regardless of which team you root for, this stadium is beautifully constructed and you can’t find a bad seat in the park. The coolest part is watching how quietly the roof closes above you. It’s the convertible of baseball stadiums, and it’s way cooler than actually being in a convertible.

Play Bocce Ball at Rhein Haus

Ok I will have to admit that a bocce ball beer garden is a little odd but it works! Rhein Haus has an awesome bocce court and plenty of space. This location is family friendly and has a cozy rustic feel which makes it a perfect go-to when the weather isn’t cooperating. The food there is good too!

Where to Eat

The Fat Hen

Not sure where you want to go for breakfast? Well if you like eggs then The Fat Hen is the place to go. This place gets pretty busy (like all great breakfast spots these days) so make sure to beat the 9:00am crowd if you can. What to get: Any of their baked egg dishes.

Piroshki on Madison

What is a peroshki? Peroshki are a Russian comfort food which consists of dough that is stuffed with various types of meat or vegetables. Most commonly they are stuffed with either ground beef or turkey, and the vegetarian versions are stuffed with cabbage and sometimes potatoes. These piroshki in particular were not only tasty, but they were HUGE! So please support my Russian comrades and grab a piroshki. What to get: Any peroshki.

Taylor Shellfish

13882625_10104798596575827_6502680939985191861_nThis place has a fantastic happy hour! We came here per the recommendation of a bar tender at a questionable drinking establishment, and we were glad we did. What impressed me about Taylor’s was their friendly staff, their great happy hour prices, and the amazing quality of their oysters. What to get: try the half dozen oysters with an oyster stout or a Bloody Mary.

Toulouse Restaurant

This place was probably the best place I’ve ever been to for breakfast…ever. I didn’t take any pictures of the establishment because my husband begged me not to take any more pictures of food. He gave me the “divorce eyes” so I decided not to hedge my bets. But let this be more reason to venture to this restaurant and see the incredible food for yourself! Toulouse is a New Orlean’s style Creole Kitchen, with a wonderfully diverse array of menu items. My favorite was the Dungeness Crab Eggs Benedict. It was, as the French say, incroyable!

Where to Stay

Mayflower Park Hotel

This hotel is so charming. This is an easy choice when looking at places to stay in Seattle due to it’s adorable interior and central location, you will love it! The Mayflower has this old timey feel that is both luxurious and relaxed. The staff are friendly and are always responsive. The value and quality of the rooms is great for the price and they also have deals for AAA members. Check it out!

Captains Quarters Airbnb

The Captains Quarters is located in the Ballard neighborhood and is one of the most quaint Airbnb’s I have ever stayed in. This adorably converted garage has a nautical theme that comes through in the details. You can even hear “the ocean”! They are also dog friendly which was a miracle for such a great price and location. 10/10 would stay again!
